The Rivers State House of Assembly has rescinded the impeachment notice previously issued to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The legislators formally commenced their sessions in the state capital of Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The assembly convened exclusively to address the withdrawal of the impeachment notice against Fubara during their discussions.
This development ensued after a reconciliation meeting on Monday between President Bola Tinubu and the conflicting parties at the Aso Villa in Abuja, where a truce was negotiated.
Reports state that the lawmakers, in a notice read on the house floor, declared their decision to withdraw, citing respect for the President as the rationale behind their action.
The dispute between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, led to a division among lawmakers in the House. Twenty-seven of them defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
In the course of the conflict, various events unfolded, including the emergence of parallel sittings, the discovery of an impeachment plot against the governor, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and a wave of resignations within Fubara’s cabinet, particularly among pro-Wike commissioners.
