JUST IN: Ruling underway in Nasarawa gov appeal

78

The delivery of judgment in the Nasarawa State governorship appeal is imminent.

This is the sole state where the two major political parties were compelled to sign a peace agreement due to concerns over potential violence following the judgment.

Moreover, protests have erupted in various parts of the state, including the Federal Capital Territory, urging the justices of the apex court to ensure fairness in their judgment.

The tribunal had earlier removed Governor Abdullahi Sule and declared David Ombugadu, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, as the winner of the March 18, 2023 election.

However, the appeal court reinstated Sule, contending that the tribunal had improperly relied on the evidence of eight PDP witnesses, whose statements on oath were not submitted alongside the petition.

Notably, in all the concluded cases thus far, no governor has been removed from office.

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Adamu, former Governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura, and the incumbent governor of the state, Sule, are present in court for this judgment.
