Shi’ite protesters invade Abuja, demand El-Zakzaky’s passport’s be released

Shi’ite protesters have invaded Abuja’s Federal Capital Territory and demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari lift the travel ban imposed on Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria.

The protesters, who are thought to be followers of the Shi’ite leader, demanded the release of El-Zakzaky and his wife Malama Zeenah’s international passports so they could travel for medical treatment.

Earlier on Thursday, a Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed Sheikh Ibraheem El-request Zakzaky’s that the Department of State Services release his and his wife’s passports.

Notwithstanding the 10 proofs submitted by his attorneys to show that the DSS took the passports away following the Muslim cleric’s return from India in 2018, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, who rendered the ruling, determined that the cleric had failed to establish that his passport was gone.

The protesters were seen holding banners and placards that read, “Buhari must remove the travel ban on Sheikh El-Zakzaky.”

Unconfirmed claims of shootings at the protest have also surfaced.
