President Bola Tinubu has left Abuja and is currently en route to Paris to attend the Paris Summit for the New Global Financial Pact, joining other world leaders.

Tinubu’s official Gulfstream jet took off from the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 11:30 am on Tuesday, marking his inaugural international trip as president.

Scheduled to take place from June 22-23, 2023, the two-day summit will be hosted by President Emmanuel Macron of France at Palais Brongniart.

While in Paris, the President will “participate, review and sign a New Global Financial Pact that places vulnerable countries on priority list for support and investment, following devastating impact of climate change, energy crisis, and after effect of the COVID-19 pandemic,” a statement signed by the Special Adviser, Special Duties, Communication and Strategy, Dele Alake, read on Monday.

During the Paris Summit for the New Global Financial Pact, leaders will examine ways to address the financial challenges faced by countries, particularly those heavily indebted, in order to restore their fiscal space. They will also explore innovative financing options for countries vulnerable to climate change, promote development in low-income nations, and encourage investments in environmentally friendly infrastructure to facilitate the transition to clean energy in emerging and developing economies.

According to Alake, President Tinubu and other global leaders, along with multilateral institutions, financial experts, and economists, will adopt a comprehensive approach to economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact and the increasing poverty rates. Their aim is to facilitate access to finance and investment opportunities that promote inclusive growth.

President Tinubu, accompanied by members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council and senior government officials, will conclude his participation in the summit and return on Saturday.
