Domestic flight operations resumed at the Kaduna International Airport after more than five months, commercial airlines halted their flights to the airport because of security worries and logistical challenges.

At precisely 5:10 pm on Monday, a commercial passenger plane arriving from Lagos touched down at the airport under tight security, marking the resumption of flight operations along this route.

Adamu Sheikh, the Manager of Kaduna International Airport, reassured that the airport is now safe and secure for both passengers and airline operations. He emphasized that the airport’s previous closure was not a result of bandit attacks.

In March 2022, the airport’s vicinity was targeted by bandits, leading to the suspension of flight operations. Despite the attack, Azman Air continued to operate on the Kaduna Airport route but eventually ceased flights into the airport around five months ago. This situation compelled passengers traveling the Lagos-Kaduna route to either land in Kano or Abuja and then continue their journey to Kaduna by road.

Nonetheless, on Monday, a commercial passenger aircraft arrived from Lagos at the airport, bringing joy to airport personnel and travelers. They urged the government to guarantee the airport’s ongoing safety and functionality.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reported that additional airlines are scheduled to recommence operations at Kaduna Airport.

Airport management further guaranteed passengers and airline companies that they have implemented thorough security measures to ensure the well-being of both passengers and airline staff.
