Kaduna excels in North West NNPC quiz competition
The contestant from Kaduna State who competed in the North-West zone of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation National Science Quiz Competition in Kano was declared this year’s winner.
In the competition’s final lap on Wednesday, Abdulrahman Muhammad, a Senior Secondary School 3 student at Alhudahuda College in Zaria, represented Kaduna State and defeated six other competitors from the North-Western states.
Garba Muhammad, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, of the NNPC, who was represented by Ismaila Salihu, Manager, Administration, Budget, Planning and Monitoring, made a statement at the conclusion of the event stating that the NNPC was dedicated to promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education by holding such competitions.
He added urged the state ministries of education to help Nigerian youngsters develop their skills by supporting and developing them while working with partners like the NNPC.
“It is for this reason that the NNPC’s commitment to encouraging science, technology, engineering and mathematics education (STEM education), which is the focus of the NNPC National Science Quiz Competition has become stronger than ever.
“I invite all teachers, JETS coordinators, officials of the state ministries of education and parents here today to join the NNPC in this journey to create the Nigeria of our dreams by nurturing the mind and building the skills of the nation’s youth.”
Seven pupils from the seven states of the North-West zone competed in the competition in Kano. The seven pupils received N100,000 each in souvenir items as payment for their participation.
Nigerian students from all the zones participated, representing 774 local government areas. Nine female and 28 male students will successfully navigate the obstacles on their way to the finals at the NNPC Towers in Abuja.
