A prominent member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State, Bashir Zakariya, has died in a fatal car accident along the Zaria-Kaduna highway on Thursday.
Until his death, Zakariya served as the SDP Chairman for the Kaduna North Senatorial District (Zone One).
According to party officials, Zakariya was en route from Zaria to Kaduna when the crash occurred on the busy highway, resulting in his immediate death.
In a statement, the Kaduna State SDP Publicity Secretary described Zakariya as a “man of integrity, courage, and vision” whose commitment to justice and democracy inspired many within and beyond the party.
He added that Zakariya was known for his unwavering stance on truth and worked tirelessly to strengthen the SDP across Zone One and other parts of the state.
In the wake of the tragedy, the party has called on both the state and federal governments to take urgent steps to address the frequent accidents along the Zaria-Kaduna Expressway.
