Kano authorizes 50 percent increase in scholarships, to allocate N865m

The state scholarship allowances for Kano residents attending schools in Nigeria have been approved for a 50% increase by the Kano State Executive Council.

In a similar vein, it has also approved the release of N865.4 million to the state scholarship board as unpaid allowance and to provide logistics for the payment of the students across the 44 local governments of the five Emirates in the state.

This was revealed by the state’s information commissioner, Muhammad Garba, on Thursday while briefing reporters on the results of the weekly meeting that had taken place in the council chamber of Kano’s Government House.

He clarified that the scholarships would help a total of 40,494 indigent pupils.

He claims that N836,269,150 is the total amount of unpaid scholarships for the 40,494 internal students from Karaye, Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Kano in the state’s 44 local governments, while N29,180,000 is required for payment logistics.

Garba added that the outstanding allowances and logistics for the Karaye Emirate, which has eight local governments and 3,094 students, will total N61,463,950, while the logistics and outstanding allowances for the Bichi Emirate, which has nine local governments and 3,494 students, will total N71,242, 800.

While Gaya Emirate, which has nine local governments and 4,260 students, will receive N86,236,600 as unpaid allowances and logistics, the commissioner also listed the allowances and logistics for the 4,015 students from Rano Emirate’s ten local governments at N78,351,800 and N4,020,000, respectively.

Kano Emirate, he said, with eight local governments has outstanding scholarships allowances for 26,086 students and will receive the N538,974,000 and logistics in respect of the payment amounting to N13,100,000.
