Kano auto crash claims 14 lives- FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the deaths of 14 passengers who were burned to death after an accident involving a Toyota Hummer bus and a Hyundai jeep on the Gaya-Wudil road in Kano State.

On Tuesday, Zubairu Mato, Sector Commander of the Kano FRSC, confirmed the number of deaths.

He stated that road safety officials arrived at the scene of the accident at Rege Village by Antukuwani on the Kano-Gaya road at 7.45 p.m.

He explained that the bus, GML 102 TA of Kano Line, was travelling from Gombe State when it collided with the jeep around 7.30 p.m. on Sunday night.

He said, “Thirteen passengers were burnt to death on the spot with 6 others injured in the accident.”

It was gathered that one of the female passengers died on Monday morning at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital intensive care unit.

The FRSC commander attributed the accident to over speeding and dangerous overtaking.

He, therefore urged drivers to always ensure the use of speed limit device and avoid dangerous overtaking while driving on highways.
