Kano Court blocks Police from harassing anti-corruption chair

A High Court in Kano, led by Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji, has issued an interim order preventing the Inspector General of Police and other authorities from inviting, arresting, or harassing Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.

The ruling, issued on Monday, comes in response to a suit filed by the Kano State Attorney General, the Commission, and Rimingado himself. The court’s order prohibits the police and other defendants from interfering with the rights of Rimingado and the Commission’s officers.

Justice Ma’aji’s order specifically restrains the police from compelling Rimingado to attend any police station, including the headquarters in Abuja, until further notice.

The Nigeria Police Force, however, denied claims of Rimingado’s arrest, stating he was merely invited to address a petition filed against him. The police clarified that the invitation was part of standard investigative procedures, dismissing Rimingado’s claims as misleading.

The case has been adjourned for further proceedings.
