Kano court detains 25 suspects for forging traffic agency’s receipts

On Tuesday, the Kano Magistrate Court issued an order to detain Aminu Salisu, Kamilu Yusuf, Baba Jibril, and 22 other individuals who were apprehended for possessing counterfeit documents belonging to the Kano Road Traffic Agency.

The defendants were presented before Chief Magistrate Halima Wali to face three charges. According to Tijjani Ibrahim, the accused individuals committed the alleged offense on July 22, 2023, which is in violation of Section 97, 393, 321, and the Penal Code.

Upon hearing the contents of the First Information Reports, the defendants entered pleas of not guilty. Subsequently, their defense counsel, Nazifi Rabiu, requested the court to grant them bail, citing Section 35 (6) and 36 (5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended, and Section 171 (3) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Kano State 2019.

In response to the bail application, the presiding magistrate, Halima Wali, scheduled the next hearing for July 27, where she will deliver her ruling on the matter.
