Kano gov-elect vows to build on Kwankwaso’s legacy

Abba Kabir, the incoming Governor of Kano State, has pledged to continue Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso’s great work.

In his victory speech on Monday night in Kano, Kabir—who won the governorship on the New Nigeria Peoples Party ticket last Saturday—made this statement.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Kabir the winner of the state’s governorship race on Saturday.

Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress received 890,705 votes, while Kabir received 1,019,602 votes, according to the results announced by the state’s returning officer, Professor Ahmed Ibrahim.

Kabir vowed that his administration will be an offshoot of Kwankwaso administration.

He also assured to uphold and continue with the philosophy of the Kwankwasiyya.

“We shall continue with its laudable people-oriented policies, focusing on qualitative education, empowerment programmes, policies, which promotes skills acquisition and entrepreneurship”.

“The completion of abandoned projects, free maternal healthcare programmes and provision of a conducive atmosphere for the development of businesses in and within the state,” he said.

The NNPP, Kabir’s party, and the good people of Kano state entered into a social contract, which he vowed to fulfill. He added that despite the party’s youth and the fact that its emblem was inadequately printed on the vote paper, as well as extensive election violence, the people’s choice had won.

“You still gave us your mandate. We had no money and due to the inflicted poverty on the citizenry, the government took advantage to buy votes of the people, using both the new and old currencies, as well as distributed wrappers and other household items to voters.

“Against all these odds, you still came out en-mass to give us your mandate,” he added.

Abba Gida-Gida, the state party’s leader, commended Kwankwaso for his tireless work in securing their election as governor and deputy governor.

He also expressed gratitude to the state’s residents, security services, election observers, INEC, the media, as well as all other stakeholders who worked tirelessly to ensure free, credible, and fair elections.

In order to successfully carry out the mandate to lead Kano for the next four years, Abba requested the assistance and cooperation of the good people of Kano.
