Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has commended the Federal Government for suspending the planned increase in the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination fees.
The governor’s commendation was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
According to the statement, Yusuf spoke while presenting appointment letters to 4,900 newly recruited teachers for basic and secondary schools and formally engaging 3,688 Abba Gida-Gida BESDA Cohort V facilitators.
He described the Federal Government’s decision as a timely intervention that would ease the financial burden on millions of Nigerian families and improve access to quality education.
Yusuf also praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for implementing reforms aimed at expanding access to quality education under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He further commended the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for their commitment to promoting inclusive and affordable education across the country.
According to the governor, the timely release of UBEC counterpart funds has enabled the construction and rehabilitation of schools, as well as the execution of other basic education projects across Kano State.
Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, UBEC, NECO and other relevant agencies to increase investment in education and improve learning outcomes.
