Kano Governor orders closure of all MDA accounts

The Kano State Government has mandated the closure of all bank accounts managed by its ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), consolidating them into a single treasury account.

Governor Abba Yusuf issued this directive during a meeting at the Government House in Kano on Wednesday, citing financial irregularities within various ministries and agencies as the driving force behind the decision.

“The government has implemented this measure to ensure proper fund management and eliminate opportunities for financial misconduct,” the governor stated.

He warned that any ministry or agency failing to comply with this directive within a week would face legal repercussions.

Zayyid Abubakar, Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), also addressed the gathering, introducing a new tax collection strategy under the unified treasury account system.

“This approach will boost revenue for Kano State and prevent the misappropriation of government funds,” Abubakar said.

The meeting saw the participation of senior government officials, including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Shehu Sagagi, commissioners, heads of ministries and agencies, and representatives from various banks.
