Sanusi Bature, the Director-General of Media and Communication for the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, stated on Saturday that he is fully prepared to resist any attempt by the police to arrest him.
Bature recounted how he sought refuge at the Kano State Government House for five days to evade arrest. He shared his experience while speaking at the PR Nigeria Young Communication Fellowship event in Kano, alleging that around 40 officers from the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Team had been deployed to Kano to apprehend him six days earlier.
He explained that he remained at the Government House because constitutional immunity prevents arrests within its premises without the express permission of the governor.
Bature disclosed that he had secured a court order restraining the police from arresting him, which gave him the confidence to attend the event.
“There was a petition against me, personally handled by the Inspector General of Police. He deployed 40 personnel from the IG Monitoring Team to Kano last Sunday with a directive to arrest me,” he claimed.
“I came out for three reasons: First, I felt it was important to attend this event, even if it meant risking arrest. Secondly, I have obtained a court order that has not yet been served on the police but has gone viral, so they are likely aware of it. Lastly, I ventured out with confidence because I am well fortified to resist arrest if it comes to that.”
During his address, Bature emphasised the significance of mentorship and the numerous benefits it offers to young professionals.
The event provided an opportunity for the embattled media aide to share his perspective on recent events while encouraging the audience to prioritise mentorship in their careers.
