The Kano State Government has unveiled a comprehensive plan to provide free housing for flood victims across the state and improve the learning environment by distributing desks and chairs to 220,000 students.
Governor Abba Yusuf announced these initiatives during the weekly Executive Council meeting at the Government House on Wednesday. He stated that the housing project would benefit flood victims in all 44 local government areas, offering them safe and affordable homes.
“The provision of these houses will greatly assist flood victims in securing proper shelter for their families,” the governor said.
He further emphasized the state’s commitment to alleviating the effects of flooding, which has displaced numerous families.
Governor Yusuf also mentioned that the state government is collaborating with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to extend additional support to flood victims.
“We are dedicated to helping them with food and essential supplies during this difficult time,” he added.
In addition to the housing initiative, the governor outlined plans to improve educational facilities for primary and secondary students. The first phase will involve distributing desks and chairs to 220,000 students.
“This is part of our broader effort to enhance the teaching and learning conditions in our schools,” Governor Yusuf stated.
As the 2024/2025 academic session begins in some newly rehabilitated schools, the governor reassured citizens that the government is committed to rehabilitating all schools in the state. He also reiterated the promise to provide free uniforms to all Primary 1 pupils, aligning with the state’s emergency declaration on education.
Governor Yusuf called on stakeholders in the education sector to work together to achieve the state’s educational objectives.
“We must collaborate to ensure the success of these initiatives. Our children’s education is a priority, and we will continue to invest in their future,” he said.
Commending the Executive Council members for their dedication, Governor Yusuf encouraged them to stay focused on their responsibilities, despite efforts by detractors to slow the state’s progress.
“Your efforts are invaluable, and we must not be swayed by those trying to undermine our achievements,” he added.
