The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing of the Kano Governorship Election Appeal between Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Thursday, December 21st.
According to a letter provided to the legal teams of both parties by the Registrar of the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court will consider the appeal of the New Nigeria Peoples Party as well as cross-appeals from other parties.
It could be recalled that Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf is challenging the judgment of the Court of Appeal which, about a month ago, had affirmed the nullification of his election victory by the Kano State Governorship Election Tribunal.
The three member panel led by Justice Osedebay had declared the All Progressives Congress candidate in the governorship election, Nasiru Gawuna, the winner of the poll in the state.
The tribunal had sacked Yusuf on the grounds that his name was not included in the register of party members sent by his ward to thr Independent National Electoral Commission (NEC) as well as the fact that about 165,663 votes cast in his favour were not stamped, signed and dated as provided by the Electoral Act.
