The Kano State Government has begun implementing the newly approved ₦71,000 minimum wage for its workers.
This development comes just three weeks after the state government received and approved the recommendations of a special committee tasked with reviewing the minimum wage.
True to its tradition of paying salaries on the 25th of every month, the state ensured that November salaries reflected the approved increase.
Speaking on the matter, the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah and commended the governor for keeping his promise.
“From the moment His Excellency announced the salary increment, I remained confident that his words would be followed by action,” Musa said.
Clearly overjoyed, Musa called on civil servants to reciprocate the government’s gesture with dedication and commitment.
“This increase is a call for us to recommit ourselves to delivering effective and efficient service. Let us approach our duties with diligence and the fear of God to justify what we are earning,” he advised.
The Head of Service also encouraged workers to use the additional income wisely.
“Refrain from extravagant spending and focus on improving your living conditions with this increment,” he counselled.
Musa further disclosed that the state government had started paying allowances for health workers as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance workers’ welfare.
The news was met with widespread celebration among Kano State workers. Many civil servants expressed joy upon receiving alerts reflecting their revised salaries.
One ecstatic worker remarked, “This is a transformative step by the government. It will alleviate the financial pressures that many of us have been enduring.”
A teacher at a public school added, “The governor has truly shown his dedication to our welfare. This increment will inspire us to perform our duties with greater enthusiasm.”
Aliyu Yusuf, the Director of Public Enlightenment in the Office of the Head of Civil Service, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and encouraged civil servants to remain steadfast in their responsibilities.
