The Kano State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime, with 345 suspected offenders arrested during a large-scale security operation conducted across the state.
Addressing journalists on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, said the operation covered all 44 local government areas and focused on tackling thuggery, drug-related offences, and the illegal possession of weapons.
“I have convened this briefing to update the people of Kano State on the current security situation, to present the results of our recent statewide operation, and to reaffirm the command’s commitment to consolidating the gains we are recording.
“During the operations, a total of 345 suspects were taken into custody, including suspected thugs, drug peddlers, and persons found with offensive weapons. All the suspects are undergoing investigation and will be prosecuted where evidence warrants,” Bakori said.
The police boss stated that officers recovered about 270 dangerous items from the suspects, including knives, clubs, cutlasses, and other weapons believed to be linked to violent activities.
He further disclosed that law enforcement agents seized various suspected hard drugs and prohibited substances, among them Cannabis Sativa, Exol tablets, and the locally known mixture called “Suck and Die.”
Bakori noted that the operation has significantly disrupted criminal activities and reduced the ability of offenders to threaten residents and communities.
On the ongoing Operation Kukan Kura, he said the initiative has strengthened surveillance and improved the command’s response to security threats across the state.
“The Violent Crime Response Unit, which was recently launched, has sharpened our tactical response to armed violence and gang activity. Its intelligence and rapid-deployment functions have improved our ability to act swiftly on actionable information,” he said.
He assured residents that the command would continue aggressive operations against criminal elements through intelligence gathering, targeted raids, and legal action against offenders.
