Bandits have released the mother of Dauda Adamu Kahutu, the well-known Hausa political singer known as Rarara.

According to a family source speaking to Channels Television on Wednesday, the 75-year-old woman named Hajiya Hauwa’u Adamu regained her freedom after being held captive for 18 days.

The source mentioned that immediately after her release on Tuesday evening, the singer’s mother was rushed to a hospital in Abuja for urgent medical attention. Her health had deteriorated during captivity, with doctors diagnosing her with high blood pressure.

News of her release sparked jubilation in Kahutu village, the singer’s hometown in Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State. The bandits had initially demanded a ransom of one billion naira before eventually releasing her.

The abduction occurred on June 28, 2024, when bandits armed with AK-47 rifles raided Kahutu village, taking Rarara’s mother from her residence around 1:00 am.

“The bandits stormed the village barefoot and operated for a few minutes. Upon their arrival in the village, the bandits went straight to the residence of the victim and picked only her, ignoring other people they met in the house.

In the wake of the abduction, police authorities in Katsina State said two suspects have been arrested for questioning.

“Upon receipt of the report, promptly, the DPO Danja led a team of operatives to the scene with a view to arresting the culprits and unhurt rescue of the victim,” the spokesman of the Katsina Police Command Abubakar Sadiq said.

“During investigation, two (2) suspects were arrested for questioning. Further development will be communicated in due course as the investigation proceeds,” he added.
