Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has led a high-level security delegation to Maharba village in Matazu Local Government Area to assess the aftermath of a deadly bandit ambush that claimed the lives of five Community Security Watch Corps members.

Among the victims was Commander Mallam Sanusi, who oversaw security operations in Kusada, Kankia, and parts of Charanci LGAs. He and four colleagues were reportedly ambushed while travelling in a Hilux vehicle on a reinforcement mission. The attackers, around twenty in number, were said to have hidden in mango trees near a major stream before launching the assault. Their vehicle was set ablaze, and was still smouldering when the Governor arrived.

In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the delegation was accompanied to the site by Matazu Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Shamsudeen Muhammad Sayaya.

Following the inspection, Governor Radda visited remote communities to better understand local security conditions and engaged with residents regarding his administration’s commitment to addressing insecurity. He assured them that his government would continue to work closely with security agencies and local leaders to enhance protective measures across the State.

Providing further details, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Muazu Danmusa, highlighted the dual challenge of ongoing bandit attacks and military successes against criminal groups, particularly in areas like Ruwan Godiya.

Dr Danmusa stated the Governor’s visit aimed to provide direct insight and guide the ministry’s strategy in responding to the tragic incident. He emphasised the need for further tactical planning to safeguard lives and property, while appealing for public support, patience, and continued prayers.

On behalf of the government and the people of Katsina, Governor Radda extended his condolences to the families of the fallen security personnel, praying for divine comfort and strength for those affected by the loss.
