The deputy speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Sama’ila-Bagudo, has been abducted by suspected bandits in Bagudo Local Government Area.

Nafi’u Abubakar, spokesperson of the Kebbi police command, confirmed that the incident occurred on Friday around 8:20 p.m.

He said the lawmaker was kidnapped while returning home shortly after observing the Isha’i prayer.

According to Abubakar, a joint security operation involving police tactical units, military personnel, and vigilantes has been launched to track down the abductors and ensure the safe rescue of the legislator.

“The joint team is currently combing the bandits’ routes and nearby forests with a view to rescuing the lawmaker unhurt and arresting the perpetrators of the dastardly act,” Abubakar said.

Bello Sani, the Kebbi commissioner of police, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property throughout the state.

He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and order.
