Kebbi Govt approves N75,000 minimum wage for civil servants

The Kebbi State Government has approved a new minimum wage of N75,000 for civil servants.

This announcement came during the presentation of the Minimum Wage Committee’s report, which had been set up by the governor.

It marked a significant moment for Kebbi State workers, who had been eagerly awaiting a salary increase following the agreement between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Federal Government on a N72,000 minimum wage.

Kebbi’s new minimum wage is slightly higher than the federal government’s.

During the event, which was attended by national leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress, including Joe Ajaero, the Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Bala, stated that the agreement was reached after extensive discussions between the state government and the labour union.

Both parties ultimately agreed on the N75,000 minimum wage.

Governor Nasir Idris, upon signing the new wage into law, emphasized that the welfare of Kebbi State workers is a top priority, highlighting his background as a former labour leader turned governor.

He confirmed that the new minimum wage would take effect from the October salary, with payments to be made within 72 hours.

NLC President Joe Ajaero praised Governor Idris for his commitment but criticized other governors who, despite receiving more oil revenue, have only approved minimal wage increases. He reiterated the union’s determination to continue advocating for fair wages across the country.

The NLC leaders expressed their appreciation for the governor’s decision by singing solidarity songs on behalf of Kebbi State workers.
