The Kebbi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of the College of Health Technology in Jega following a violent student protest.
During a press briefing, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Abubakar Tunga, stated that the decision was made to prevent further escalation of the unrest.
The protest, which stemmed from grievances such as lack of course accreditation, poor sanitation, and ineffective leadership, resulted in angry students targeting the Provost by burning his house and vandalizing his car.
Abubakar Tunga assured that a committee would be established to investigate the incident and that those responsible would face consequences.
The college will remain closed for a period of three weeks to one month.
