Nasir Idris of the All Progressives Congress has been named the winner of the governorship elections held in Kebbi State by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Nasir Idris received 409,225 votes, beating General Aminu Bands of the PDP, who received 360,940 votes, according to the Returning Officer, Professor Saidu Yusuf, who announced the results of the supplementary election last Saturday.
Even though the PDP supporters appear to have greeted the results in total amazement, the news of Idris’ victory was heartily welcomed and there were pockets of jubilation all around the State.

Nasiru Idris, the newly elected governor, pledged in his acceptance address to lead an inclusive administration and to build on the accomplishments of Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.

He further said, “Let me use this opportunity to thank our teeming supporters who turned out en mass to vote APC into the office to continue enjoying the dividends of democracy.

“To those whom we contested against in the other parties, you should know we have no other state than Kebbi; you should therefore join hands with us to move the state forward,” he noted.
