The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has praised the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, following his return to the All Progressives Congress.
NEWSCLICKNG Online reported that Yusuf officially rejoined the ruling party on Monday at the Coronation Hall of the Kano Government House.
Yusuf, who had previously been an APC member before contesting and winning the 2023 governorship election under the New Nigeria People’s Party, returned to the party alongside several members of the Kano State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.
The governor was formally welcomed into the APC by the former National Chairman of the party and immediate past Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje; the Deputy President of the Senate and Senator representing Kano South, Barau Jibrin; the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata; and other senior party officials.
Speaking at the occasion, Yusuf stated that his return to the APC was driven by the need to collaborate more effectively with the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu.
He revealed that the decision was made collectively with key political stakeholders in the state.
The governor explained that the move was motivated by the need to align with the Federal Government in supporting President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he described as development-focused and advantageous for Kano State.
He emphasised that the decision was not influenced by personal interest or negative considerations, but by the desire to foster peace, unity and development in the state.
Yusuf added that working closely with the central government would end what he termed isolation politics and accelerate the state’s development.
He expressed confidence that the defection would foster a calmer political environment in Kano while acknowledging the contributions of those who supported his rise as governor.
He assured residents that his administration would remain inclusive, stating that no individual or group would be excluded.
In response, Keyamo welcomed the governor back to the ruling party in a post on his verified X handle on Tuesday.
Keyamo praised Yusuf for prioritising the welfare of the people above loyalty to anyone.
He wrote, “My dear brother, H.E. Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, welcome back home to the APC. With your giant strides in Kano as a true progressive governor, it feels like you never left the APC.
“History will record that you prioritised the welfare of your people over and above blind loyalty to anyone.”
