Unknown gunmen, who kidnapped a retired priest, Rev Filibus Bamai of ECWA Church, Matuak Rimi, in Moro’a Chiefdom of Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have demanded N1 million ransom for his release.

A reliable source from the church disclosed this information in Manchok on Tuesday, revealing that Reverend Filibus Bamai, who retired from service on December 17 upon reaching the age of 65, was abducted from his residence at 12:50 am on Sunday.

The source detailed that the clergyman was taken away wearing only boxers, while his wife endured severe beatings with a stick, resulting in a head injury and back bruises.

The abductors initially demanded a ransom of N5 million, but by Monday, they had reduced the amount to N1 million.

The source mentioned that approximately N300,000 has been raised so far, urging security agencies to enhance surveillance in the area to safeguard lives and property.

The incidence of kidnappings is rising in rural areas, where criminals exploit the lax security conditions to select victims with ease.

Just a week ago, Mr. Sunday Bage, a farmer from Pari village in the Chawai chiefdom of Kauru Local Government in Kaduna State, was abducted along with his wife, Listu.
