The Kogi State Government has praised President Bola Tinubu’s push for the creation of state police, describing it as a generational reform capable of reshaping Nigeria’s security framework.

In a statement released Thursday by Commissioner for Information and Communications Kingsley Fanwo, the government applauded the President for reaffirming his commitment to decentralised policing during a high-level meeting with governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to the statement, the President emphasised that state police has become essential in tackling evolving security threats, noting that decentralised law enforcement would strengthen community-based responses, improve intelligence gathering, and enhance internal security nationwide.

The government observed that the President’s stance comes as the National Assembly continues to deliberate on the constitutional and legislative requirements for establishing state police, describing the initiative as a bold and strategic move toward long-term national stability.

It added that Governor Ahmed Ododo’s administration fully supports the President’s vision and remains committed to reforms that bring security closer to local communities.

The state government further described the state police initiative as a decisive intervention capable of significantly reducing insecurity across Nigeria.

It also commended Tinubu for ongoing economic and financial sector reforms, describing the proposed decentralisation of policing as a logical extension of the administration’s broader national renewal agenda.

“As a government, we fully align with Mr President’s position and assure him, as well as the leadership of the National Assembly, of our readiness to cooperate with all relevant authorities to make state police a reality,” the statement said.

The government maintained that sustained collaboration between federal and state authorities would not only address immediate threats but also lay the groundwork for lasting peace, security, and development across the country.

NEWSCLICKNG Online previously reported that Tinubu reiterated his firm commitment to establishing state police as a means of curbing persistent security threats nationwide.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State House of Assembly has pledged to fast-track consideration of the state police bill once it is presented before the House.
