Stakeholders and ex-executive members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State’s Kabba/Bunu Council have formally switched to the APC.

On Monday, they were welcomed by Governor Yahaya Bello in the governor’s office’s banquet hall.

Bello underlined in his welcome speech that the APC gives both new and seasoned members equal opportunity.

He urged opposition politicians to join the party in order to support the initiatives taken by his administration to improve the socioeconomic standing of the Kogi people.

The governor added that before the conclusion of his term, the state university in Okunland, which was founded under his administration, would admit its first students.

He encouraged opposition politicians to join the party to contribute to his administration’s efforts at enhancing the socio-economic well being of the Kogi people.

The governor also announced that the state university, in Okunland, which was initiated under his administration, would enrol its first students before the end of his tenure.

Bello also urged the people not only to unite for political participation, but to foster stronger bonds that could attract socio-economic development to the state. The governor noted that a politically united state has a lot to benefit under the current administration, both at the federal and state levels.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, a former member of the state Assembly and immediate past treasurer of PDP in council, Alfred Bello, highlighted the governor’s exceptional infrastructure development and exemplary leadership, characterised by inclusiveness, fairness, justice and equity as reasons for their defection to the APC.

The former lawmaker praised the governor for founding a state-owned institution in Okunland and emphasised that prior administrations had not provided access to tertiary education for the Okun people.

He saw the founding of the institution as evidence of Bello’s devotion to equity, justice, and fairness as well as his conviction in a united state.

The former PDP leader gave the governor his word that he and his party colleagues, including other members of Okun, would fight to ensure that the APC won the upcoming governorship election in the state.
