The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Office in Nigeria on Tuesday, conducted a final handover ceremony and the End-of-Project Evaluation by Partner Country exercise of five million dollars in Borno.
According to reports, the project titled “Fostering Resilience and Provision of Basic Medical Services for Women and Girls in Borno State, Nigeria”.
The project was implemented in partnership with the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), Nigeria’s country office.
Mr Sungil Son, Country Director of KOICA in a statement made available to NAN commended the UNFPA and the Borno State Government for their contributions to the achievements recorded on the project.
He also reiterated the need for both entities to ensure that recorded achievements were sustainably maintained.
Also, according to reports, the project is aimed at building resilient communities through the restoration of access to basic medical and social services for women and girls in conflict-affected communities,
The 61 health facilities strengthened by KOICA for Reproductive Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH), one constructed fully functional and integrated women empowerment centre for women and girls economic empowerment,
Also, 130 health workers were trained on LARC, 90 health workers trained on Minimum Initial Services Package (MISP) and 293 health workers trained on Maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response (MPDSR).
There were also 11 newly established functional safe spaces, an established and fully equipped Fistula Centre of Excellence at the State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri.
Also 626 patients reached with quarterly pooled fistula repairs, and 90 skilled birth attendants trained.
So far 114,350 births have been delivered by trained skilled birth attendants, 81,448 women had also received antenatal care, 21,597 women had received postpartum care,
About 109,408 live births, and 118,233 women of reproductive age have had their family planning needs satisfied at health facilities supported by KOICA.
In his remark, Mr Stephen Pakshar, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Planning, who represented the Borno State Government at the handover ceremony conveyed the State Government’s appreciation to KOICA and UNFPA.
“We want to appreciate you for the tremendous support towards the development of the state.
“Also be assured of the government’s readiness to establish and ensure the sustainability of the facilities and equipment being handed over to the state government,” he said.
The KOICA team also visited other project sites and beneficiaries such as the KOICA-supported state-of-the-art Fistula Centre of Excellence at the State Specialist Hospital.
The fully equipped Women Empowerment Centre, and Integrated Health care facility at Muna Garage IDP Camp.
