Kwankwaso conveyed his sympathy in a statement shared on his verified X account on Monday.

He described the incident as a devastating tragedy that had plunged not only the Tela family but also the Katagum Emirate and the entire Bauchi State into mourning.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Baba Tela, on the tragic loss of his children, Mustapha and Ummi, in a fatal road crash,” he wrote.

The former Kano governor added that the incident had cast “a heavy shadow of sorrow over the Katagum Emirate and the entire Bauchi State.”

He also offered prayers for the bereaved family while sympathising with the Bauchi State Government and residents of the state.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family, the government, and the good people of Bauchi State at this difficult time,” he stated.

Mustapha and Ummi lost their lives in a road crash along the Bauchi–Azare Road on Saturday while returning from Azare.

Following the incident, Bala Mohammed also condoled with Tela, praying for the repose of the deceased and urging the family to accept the loss as the will of Allah.

The governor further sympathised with those injured in the accident and prayed for their quick recovery.

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki also mourned the victims, describing the tragedy as “painful”, and prayed for Allah’s mercy upon them and for the family to be granted the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
