The Kwankwasiyya movement has announced that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso will formally defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the African Democratic Congress on Monday.

The event is scheduled to take place in Kano, with Kwankwaso expected to be joined by several NNPP members as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general election.

The development follows a recent visit by Rauf Aregbesola, the ADC’s national secretary, to Kwankwaso’s residence in Abuja. Although Kwankwaso acknowledged the meeting on his X page, he did not reveal details of their discussions.

Speculation about his defection gained momentum during the Kwankwasiyya Eid gathering in Kano, where supporters repeatedly chanted the name of Peter Obi in his presence.

Both figures acknowledged the cheers and delivered brief remarks during the celebration.

Monday’s ceremony is expected to mark Kwankwaso’s departure from the NNPP — a party he helped build — and signal the beginning of a new political phase as the 2027 elections approach.
