Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has ordered the prompt release of funds to cover medical emergencies for 13 students from Kwara State studying at Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto.

The governor also extended a get-well-soon message to the injured students through his Special Assistant on Students Affairs, Wasiu Onidugbe.

According to a statement from the Government House released on Wednesday, “While eight of the students sustained various bone fractures requiring emergency surgeries, five others are undergoing different levels of medical treatment—all at the Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto.”

“The governor has immediately released N5,250,000.00 to cover the cost of tests, scans, and other procedures and treatments already itemised by the hospital.”

The students were involved in a road accident along the Yauri-Sokoto Expressway in Kebbi State while returning to Sokoto.

The statement also confirmed that the driver of the vehicle lost his life in the crash.
