The woman who jumped into the Lagos Lagoon on Thursday was still missing on Friday, as search and rescue operations continued.
The victim allegedly jumped into the lagoon after an argument with her fiancé over the phone.
Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, said in a statement on Thursday that the driver of the taxi claimed she was having a heated conversation with her fiancé before alighting from the car and jumping into the lagoon.
“Men of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, LASWA and officials of the Department of State Services are currently on the ground working together to search for the victim.”
Oke-Osanyintolu, in a fresh confirmation on Friday, claimed that the search and rescue team was still in the water trying to locate the victim.
The Public Education Officer, Lagos State Fire Service, Amodu Shakiri, however, said there was no success, as the body of the victim had yet to be found.
He said, “We continued search and rescue operations today, but there is no progress for now. We are going to make an official statement as soon as we conclude our operations.”
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, also confirmed the development.
He said, “No progress for now. The victim’s body has not been found.”
As revealing that the victim identified as Adetutu was a staff member of the Department of State Services, Channels Television quoted sources in the DSS office revealed that Adedokun was said to be an unarmed combat instructor. It was also claimed that she recently got engaged.
Adedokun, who is in her late 30s, was also said to have received a letter of commendation from the director general of the DSS as the best unarmed combat operative in her set, a few months ago.
The victim’s fiance was also reported to have proposed to her a few weeks ago.
She had alighted from an Uber taxi car on the bridge and plunged into the lagoon on Thursday afternoon.
