The Lagos State Government has announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), commonly referred to as the Junior WAEC, will take place from June 29 to July 6, 2026.

The disclosure was made by the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education through the Lagos State Examinations Board in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the board, the examination will commence on Monday, June 29, 2026, and end on Monday, July 6, 2026.

The Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Mr. Adebayo Orunsolu, described the examination as an important phase in the educational advancement of students throughout the state.

“The examination remains a significant academic milestone in the educational journey of students across the State,” he said.

Orunsolu advised parents, guardians, and school administrators to study the examination timetable carefully and adhere to all guidelines released by the board.

He noted that the BECE serves as the qualifying assessment for students moving from Junior Secondary School to Senior Secondary School in both public and approved private schools across Lagos State.

“The BECE serves as the official transition examination for students in public and approved private schools advancing from Junior Secondary School to Senior Secondary School,” he said.

The registrar further stressed the need for thorough preparation by candidates, adding that schools are responsible for ensuring that all eligible students are adequately prepared and satisfy the required examination conditions.

He also assured stakeholders that the board had finalized all necessary administrative and logistical arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination across the state.

Reaffirming the state government’s dedication to preserving the credibility of examinations, Orunsolu reiterated its strict position against malpractice.

He cautioned that any form of examination malpractice, disruption, or misconduct during the examination period would be met with appropriate disciplinary action in line with existing regulations.
