The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has denied reports in some quarters that the party chairman, Mr Cornelius Ojelabi, recalled the list of secretaries to local governments and supervisors across the state in compliance with directives reportedly from the “Villa.”
The party, through its spokesperson, Mr Seye Oladejo, on Wednesday described the report as “false, misleading, and intended to create unnecessary tension within our party and among the public.”
The report, shared by some Lagos APC followers and supporters on their social media handles, noted “strong indications” that the party chairman had ordered the recall of the list of supervisors and SLGs earlier forwarded to the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas in the state.
The viral report on Wednesday read: “State Chairman has recalled all the SLGs and supervisors’ list back to Acme first thing this morning.”
The report came just as lists containing the names of SLGs, supervisors, and special advisers appointed across the state’s 20 LGs and 37 LCDAs went viral in political circles in Lagos.
While the lists bore the Lagos State Government emblem, some party followers expressed doubt about their authenticity, noting that they were awaiting confirmation from the LG chairmen.
Addressing the viral report, the Lagos APC maintained that the state chairman never issued any recall directive.
The party statement read, “The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has been made aware of reports claiming that the state chairman has recalled all SLGs and supervisors to Acme in connection with directives allegedly issued at the Villa.
“We wish to categorically state that this report is false, misleading, and clearly intended to create unnecessary tension within our party and among the public.
At no time did the state chairman issue any such directive, nor is there any emergency meeting scheduled as speculated.
“The Lagos APC remains a disciplined, transparent, and law-abiding political party, guided strictly by due process and collective decision-making.”
The party cautioned members against spreading reports not emanating from official sources, which are capable of heating up the polity, especially as the 2027 elections approach.
It urged members to focus on the electioneering period and galvanise support towards ensuring the party’s victory at the polls.
The statement added, “Our primary focus at this critical time remains putting every necessary structure in place as we count down to the forthcoming national elections.
We are fully committed to strengthening our internal processes and mobilising effectively to ensure continued progress and victory at the polls.
We, therefore, advise party members, supporters, and the general public to desist from spreading or entertaining rumours capable of needlessly heating the polity. The party will continue to keep the public informed of any official updates through our usual and recognised communication channels.”
The development comes hours after Ojelabi was returned on Tuesday for another four-year term.
Ojelabi, alongside other executives, emerged through a consensus arrangement at the state congress held at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos.
