Lagos arrests two, seals event centre over waste burning

The Lagos State Government has sealed Grace Garden Event Place on Bisola Durosinmi-Etti Drive, Lekki, and arrested two suspects for illegally burning waste.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced this on Tuesday, stating that the enforcement team of the Lagos Waste Management Authority apprehended the suspects on Monday night while they were burning refuse at the facility.

He warned residents and business operators against illegal waste disposal practices, stressing that violators will be prosecuted in line with the law.

“Last night, the @Lawma_gov Enforcement Team apprehended two men burning refuse from Grace Garden Event Place at Bisola Durosinmi-Etti Drive, Lekki.”

“The offenders have been taken to @LAGESCOfficial Oshodi HQ for prosecution: Dominic Uja (25, Benue) (and) Barry Macaulay (52, Côte d’Ivoire). Grace Garden Event Place will be sealed until further notice.

“We remind residents and businesses: avoid illegal waste practices. Offenders will face prosecution under Lagos environmental laws,” Wahab said.
