The leadership crisis affecting the Lagos State House of Assembly has yet to be resolved since the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on January 13, 2025.

Some members of the Lagos State House of Assembly are currently in Abuja to meet with President Bola Tinubu regarding the ongoing leadership crisis in the assembly.

On Monday, February 3rd, members of the Governor’s Advisory Council and the Lagos State House of Assembly met at Lagos House Marina to discuss the ongoing issues within the assembly. The meeting was attended by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Kadri Hamzat, GAC leader Tajudeen Olusi, and other council members.

Although the agenda of the meeting was not disclosed to the public, discussions were expected to include developments surrounding Obasa’s removal.

Since Obasa’s removal on January 13 by 32 members of the House, political tensions have risen, sparking significant controversy within the Lagos State political landscape.

On Thursday, January 30, 2025, the Department of State Services (DSS) intervened following a petition allegedly filed by Obasa regarding his removal as Speaker.

The DSS investigation was prompted by Obasa’s alleged claims that his removal was politically motivated and involved misconduct, abuse of office, and financial mismanagement.

After questioning the lawmakers for about six hours, all those detained were released late Thursday.
