The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced that the commencement of operations for the blue line rail system is scheduled for August 2023.

During the agency’s business/investor forum, Abimbola Akinajo, the Managing Director of LAMATA, revealed in a statement that the blue line rail system would initiate its operations in August 2023.

This announcement follows the inauguration of the project’s first phase by former President Muhammadu Buhari on January 24, 2023.

Prior to the inauguration, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State conducted a test run of the project, which is designed to connect Mile 2 on the mainland to Marina on the island.

Akinajo further mentioned that the test run activities would soon conclude, paving the way for passenger operations to begin.

“I am happy to inform you that we are rounding off all testing processes for the commencement of full passenger operation in August this year. Details of the operations will be announced soon.”

According to Abimbola Akinajo, the Managing Director of LAMATA, the first phase of the LRMT red line, spanning from Agbado to Oyingbo, is nearing completion.

He stated that the agency plans to initiate testing and passenger operations for this phase around August 2023.
