On Wednesday morning in Lagos State, tragedy struck when an unnamed commercial bus driver died after his bus somersaulted as a result of a collision with a Bus Rapid Transit vehicle.

The accident happened on the Ifako Bridge heading towards Ogudu, on the Oworonshoki Expressway in Lagos.

An eyewitness reported that the fully loaded commercial bus was travelling from Lagos Island to the Ojodu Berger region when it was involved in the accident.

Hoodlums in the vicinity promptly set the BRT bus on fire after learning of the death of the commercial driver, whose body was found next to the overturned commercial bus.

As a result, traffic became backed up all the way to the Car Wash bus stop between Gbagada and Oworonshoki.

The incident was confirmed by Adebayo Taofik, Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency.

According to him, LASTMA officers were on the scene managing the accumulating traffic to clear the way for passengers.

He added that traffic police had been sent out to guarantee the expressway’s smooth operation.
