Lagos consumes 3,000 Cows daily – Hamzat

The Lagos State Government has revealed that approximately 3,000 cows are slaughtered daily to meet the needs of its residents.

Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat shared this information during Channels Television’s special programme, Nigeria’s Challenging Economy: Strategies for Recovery, in celebration of the country’s 64th independence anniversary.

“We are developing a logistics hub in Imota, the largest in this region. This hub will allow us to track the supply chain of goods coming into Lagos,” Hamzat said.

He added, “Lagos slaughters around 3,000 cows daily. We need to know where these cows are coming from and track them efficiently. Currently, our veterinary doctors dispose of any unsafe meat, but we need a more advanced system.”

Hamzat also mentioned that the state government is working on plans to store grains for Lagos residents for up to nine months.
