Lagos Govt cracks down on single-use plastics, seizes tonnes of Styrofoam in Lagos Island

The Lagos State Government has upped its environmental harm by seizing tonnes of Styrofoam packets in Lagos Island’s Bombata region, in line with its objective to phase out single-use plastics statewide.

Tokunbo Wahab, the state’s Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, revealed the major seizure via a post on his official X account.

The operation was a combined effort between the Lagos State Environmental Health Services, the Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), and other authorities.

“In a joint operation between the officers of Lagos State Environmental Health Services, Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch @OfficialLNSC, Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps @LAGESCOfficial (KAI) and other agencies, tonnes of banned styrofoam packs were seized at the Bombata area of Lagos Island,” the post read.
