The Lagos State Government has rescued a mentally challenged woman who was accused of disturbing residents in a community within the Agege area of the state.

Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, confirmed the intervention in a post shared on his verified X handle, stating that officials from the ministry’s Rescue Team evacuated the woman for medical care and rehabilitation.

The rescue followed a viral video that drew widespread public attention to the issue. The footage, which circulated online earlier in the week, showed a distressed resident appealing to the government to intervene, claiming that the mentally ill woman had been harassing the neighbourhood.

According to the speaker in the video, the woman, said to be living at No. 31 Adedosu Street, Agege, had been throwing stones into people’s homes and was often seen wielding a machete and knife.

Responding to the public outcry, Ogunlende confirmed that the woman has now been taken to a state care centre.

“She has been taken to one of our centres for care,” Ogunlende wrote.
“I urge the public to continue reporting any incidents requiring government intervention. We remain committed to ensuring social stability in Lagos. Let’s work together to make a difference.”

The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons while maintaining peace and order across communities.

The ministry also encouraged residents to report similar cases through its emergency lines for prompt intervention.
