Lagos Lawmakers storm DSS office over detained members

Around 30 members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday stormed the Department of State Security (DSS) office in Magodo, Lagos.

Their visit was reportedly linked to the detention of two colleagues who had been invited for questioning on Wednesday over matters concerning the state assembly.

The lawmakers in custody were Hon. Lanre Afinni and Hon. Sylvester Ogunkelu. According to sources, one of them has been released, while the other remains in DSS custody.

Among those present at the DSS office were Hon. Abiodun Tobun (Epe Constituency 1), Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa Constituency 2), Hon. Kehinde Joseph (Alimosho Constituency 2), Hon. Solomon Bonu (Badagry Constituency 1), and several others.

After six hours of questioning, the 30 visiting lawmakers were released but refused to comment on the matter.

The invitation is believed to be connected to the recent removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on  January 13 over allegations of financial misconduct and other concerns.

Obasa reportedly petitioned the DSS regarding the process of his removal.

The lawmakers have stated that they will respond to the situation at the appropriate time.
