Former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has raised concerns over irregularities in the ongoing local government elections in the state and has called for the exercise to be cancelled.

In an interview with Nigeria Info on Saturday, Bucknor-Akerele voiced her frustration about being unable to cast her vote at her designated polling unit.

“I have been to my own unit, my name is not there,” she said, adding that several units had been moved without prior notice.

“There are units supposed to be in front of a co-hotel, they have brought them here to Ajose Adeogun,” she said.

The former deputy governor alleged that the relocation of polling units and the omission of voters’ names were deliberate tactics aimed at manipulating the outcome of the election.

“There is a clear effort to rig the election in favour of one party. Many people are not able to vote because they have completely disrupted all the polling units,” she said.

Bucknor-Akerele called on the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission to cancel the election, pointing to widespread logistical issues and the disenfranchisement of voters as key reasons.
