Defying her age, a 70-year-old woman turned up at the Adeniji/Adele polling unit, Ward 006, in Lagos Island East on Saturday to cast her vote.
Voting began promptly at 8:00 AM at St. Stephen Nursery and Primary School, which houses two polling units—Ward 006 and Ward 007.
Ward 006 has 634 registered voters, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Ward 007 has 667 registered voters, with some residents already casting their ballots for their preferred candidates.
The Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, was also seen voting at the Adeniji/Adele polling unit, Ward 006.
Exactly one year after the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on local government autonomy in Nigeria, 7,060,195 registered voters in Lagos State—Nigeria’s commercial hub and revenue engine—are heading to the polls today to elect chairmen, vice-chairmen, and councillors across the state’s 20 local government areas (LGAs) and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs).
