Police arrest two robbery suspects watching AFCON final match in Lagos

The Police in Lagos State said they have arrested two suspected armed robbers, whose victim identified them at a bar while watching the AFCON final match on Sunday night in Lekki area of the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.

He said that the suspects – Frank Ikechukwu and Anayo Chibundu –  who allegedly robbed a lady on January 22, were sighted by the victim at a bar she went to watch the AFCON final match between Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire on Sunday night.

He said that the victim went to the Elemoro Police Division at about 9.50 p.m. to make a report while the football match was still on.

“She reported that while watching the football match, she saw two suspects at a bar in Ibeju Lekki, who had allegedly robbed her on Jan. 22.

“The victim said items stolen from her include Samsung S10 GSM phone valued at N315,000, N500,000 cash, her GTB ATM Card, First Bank ATM Card and power bank,” he said.

Hundeyin said that the suspects, who were known for terrorising the entire community of Elemoro, were eventually arrested on Monday at different locations.

He said that two vehicles, a Honda Accord  Registered  JJJ 232 JH and a Toyota Camry APP 870 JD, were recovered from them.

“Investigation revealed that they often rob their victims within Ibeju Lekki Expressway.

“All the victims affected have equally reported different cases against them. About six victims also positively identified the suspects.

“Search was conducted in their houses, where dangerous weapons were found. All victims confirmed that the weapons, including cutlasses were used on them by the suspects, “he further said.

The police image maker said that the suspects were still in police custody, while an investigation was ongoing.
