The Lagos State Police Command has summoned Inspector Obic Modestus after a video showing him assaulting a driver went viral.
An X user, @dammiedammie35, shared the video on Monday at 11 a.m., stating, “A new video of Nigerian policemen violently assaulting an Uber driver. Please share this video – this is someone’s father they’re beating like an animal.”
The Complaint Response Unit (CRU) of the Lagos Police (@LagosPoliceNG) confirmed that Inspector Modestus has been summoned and will be handed over to the Provost Department for appropriate disciplinary action.
The Lagos State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh, emphasised that it will not tolerate any form of incivility towards members of the public.
In the video, the officer can be heard shouting, “Are you mad? Are you mad?” while slapping the driver inside the vehicle.
Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin reiterated the command’s stance, stating that disciplinary procedures are being initiated against the officer involved.
