Lagos reopens Odo Iya Alaro Bridge after rehabilitation

The Lagos State Government has announced the reopening of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge in Maryland, following its temporary closure less than two months ago for repairs.

This was revealed by the state Commissioner for Transport, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a statement issued on Monday. Osiyemi noted that the rehabilitation, which began on July 22, 2024, was carried out by the state Ministry of Works.

Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, officiated the reopening of the bridge, which will ease traffic flow between the Mainland and Island.

“We are pleased to announce the early reopening of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge, ahead of schedule. Initially planned as a 90-day project, the work was completed in under two months, reflecting the exceptional commitment of everyone involved,” Osiyemi said.

He highlighted the collaboration between the Lagos State Government, the Ministry of Works, and the Ministry of Transportation. The Ministry of Works provided technical oversight, ensuring high-quality rehabilitation, while the Ministry of Transportation managed traffic logistics.

Osiyemi thanked Lagos residents for their patience during the construction and praised the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for efficiently managing traffic.

“The reopening is a major milestone in improving the city’s infrastructure, ensuring smoother traffic and better connectivity between the Mainland and Island,” Osiyemi added.
