The Lagos State Government has announced that the second phase of repair work on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge (inbound Island) will begin on Wednesday.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

As part of its traffic advisory, the Ministry of Transportation has outlined alternative routes for motorists heading inward.

Drivers traveling to Oshodi from the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway or Toll Gate are advised to take the Ojota Slip Road to link Ikorodu Road (inward Anthony, near the Taxi Park).

Motorists travelling to Victoria Island may link through Ojota Slip Road to Ikorodu Road (inward Anthony, by Town Planning Way), continue to Gbagada, then access the Third Mainland Bridge inbound to Lagos Island.

Drivers from Ikeja and surrounding areas can proceed via Maryland to Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue, then use Eko Bridge to Outer Marina.

The commissioner explained that the repair work follows a review of the traffic management plan to ease congestion experienced during the first phase of the project.

“He appealed to motorists to cooperate with Traffic Management Officers, maintain lane discipline, and make use of the provided alternative routes,” the statement partly read.

The commissioner emphasised that the partial closure of the bridge is a necessary part of the maintenance programme.

Osiyemi said, “The partial closure of the bridge is a necessary part of the maintenance programme.

“Motorists are therefore urged to be patient and bear with the temporary inconvenience in the interest of improved road infrastructure. (Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure – Office of Infrastructure)”

Osiyemi urged motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and cooperate with officers on the ground to minimise delays during the repair works.
